October has brought a noticeable shift in Oman’s weather, with temperatures easing from the peak summer heat and maximum temperatures across the Sultanate falling below 40°C.

Al Buraimi recorded the highest temperature at 38.8°C, while Jabal Shams registered the lowest at 11.2°C. The cooler conditions have been accompanied by early autumn rainfall across several governorates.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Dima W’attayeen recorded the highest rainfall on October 1 at 27 mm, followed by Al Jabal Al Akhdhar with 20 mm, Al Mudhaibi with 11 mm and Ibra with 10 mm. Light scattered showers were also reported in Al Rustaq, Al Hamra, Al Awabi and Suhar. The Oman Met Office forecasts continued development of convective clouds over the Al Hajar Mountains, with chances of isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon.

Coastal areas of Al Sharqiyah South, Al Wusta and Dhofar — including Al Duqm, Salalah, Rakhyout, Sadah and Taqah — are expected to experience partly cloudy conditions, with chances of thundershowers and light rain associated with low cloud formations and morning fog.

Authorities have urged residents in desert and open areas to exercise caution due to gusty downdraft winds and blowing dust. Strong winds are expected in Al Mazyouna, Thamrait, Jaalan Bani Bu Ali and southern coastal towns.

Motorists have also been advised to exercise caution as widespread morning fog and rainfall may reduce horizontal visibility.
